Gear Progression Cycles (Official Thread)

Mepps gave us a look at what the Gear Progression will be for Episodes 16 and 17 and then what the changes are coming in the new cycle starting with Episode 18.

Update: Time constraints being time constraints, the gear progression for this first cycle is not exactly as we had intended from the outset. The progression starting with our second 3-month cycle is a lot cleaner and simpler, and I'll detail that shortly.

Cycle 1

The chart above is incorrect where it comes to Elite Gear CR. For this first cycle (and only for this first cycle), Elite Gear will have the same Combat Rating as the rare drops from the Episode it is in. Episode 16's rare and Elite gear is all 123. Episode 17's rare and Elite gear is all 126.

This does mean those of you going for Elite gear will replace your rare gear quicker than we would like, potentially in the next Episode, and that's why the second cycle works differently.

(*Side note, there are no elite weapons - The shoulder style listed above in Episode 16 drops in Episode 17.)

Cycle 2+

For our second 3-month cycle, starting with Episode 18, we have made some adjustments to correct the first cycle's too-quick gear replacement. The intent has always been for you to replace gear once every three months - like you did prior to monthly Episodes - and the new pattern accomplishes that.

Common drops will fill out a full set just as they do now. No changes there.

Then, each Episode, you'll have a segment of the full set that gets upgraded, and it's the same at each of the rarity levels. Vendor gear, rare gear, and Elite gear from any specific Episode will all be the same slots. Vendor gear will remain lower in CR than rare and Elite gear, and rare and Elite gear will be the same CR. Here's the pattern:

Episode 18
Chest, Legs, Belt Back (vendor, rare, elite)

Episode 19
Head, Hands, Feet, Shoulder (vendor, rare, elite)

Episode 20
Weapon, Neck, Face, Trinket, Rings (vendor, rare)

You'll notice there is no elite gear in Episode 20, and that instead the elite content comes out in the first two months. This means, once you have achieved that full set of Elite gear (and the full 8-slot bonus), you keep it for the longest amount of time. (This is also likely where Survival Mode will drop in the cycles as we go forward.)

I hope that's made things more clear, but please continue with any questions you might have. We predicted the initial quick-replacement of this first cycle wasn't ideal and have already made changes to address that when we get to the next cycle.

the only question i have at the moment is do those type mods stack ? or does only one type of mod work at one time ?

if i have 4 parts of elite gear does only Type B mod work or Type A+B ?

after reading it again ...

i assume the mods stack so u will probably have +62 might + 121 might +183 might +242 might = 608 might if u wear full elite gear ?

The 4 mods effects do stack. As of right now the Type C & D mods will not be stat mods so the most Might you can get in your example is 183. (Official Post by Spord)

I agree with this. I dual-role on most of my toons and as dedicated as I am both roles, I'd want to get all the might in for my dps and all the support-stat for my support role. Right now, anyone doing dual-roles will be limited. The idea of this is that we would have the ability to chose, yet we still get limited. I am hoping for a tweak on this.
You are correct in that it is a choice that needs to be made. If you feel the need to min/max at all times then you will have to replace the mods between runs. We purposely kept the stats to an amount that is a nice bonus but it isn't going to throw off entire builds when you don't have it. (Official Post by Spord)

Oa Under Siege
Liked it for the most part it's what I'd expect for a solo. Some issues/questions:
- In the Metropolis portion one of the fallen lanterns converted without a timer showing as I was fighting (but hadn't downed) some black lanterns. Is that working as intended?
- I like that you can teleport from Munk but it took me a second to realize I had to talk to him again. After talking to him the first time I went right to the green pad and waited for it to light up. Not a huge issue but didn't seem consistent with other parts of the WoTL content where you use the pads to get around. NOTE: Just before sending this I took a second to read above and saw that inline with some other comments.

Thanks for the feedback. In Metropolis some of the lanterns will convert almost instantly, while others will take a few seconds.

What's unique about Munk and the Indigo tribe is that they all have the ability to teleport from anywhere (they can teleport others as well). I wanted to use this as an opportunity to add a little DC canon to the mission :)

The Quest "Hal Needs Help" is automatically granted to you. It should guide you all the way to Metropolis Battlezone, where you then get the quest "Oa Under Siege." Or are you saying you want a communicator message to pop up telling you to check your journal? (Official Post by TLantern)

Desecrated Cathedral
Hey all. Just to follow up, there will be some fixes coming soon to the PCTest server to address some of the feedback brought up over the weekend and today.

The issue with player-characters getting stuck in the door on the floor of the Jared fight will take a little longer to fix, but we're working on a solution. In the meantime, I've reduced his and James' aggro a bit so you're at least less likely to engage them unintentionally.

The boss fight resets will behave differently so a linkdead player won't keep a fight from resetting once the patch make it out.

Raven's 'Reflection' ability will have a tell soon, and I'll pass the feedback along that similar mechanics are feeling overused to some folks. It will also fire less frequently once the patch gets published.

New 4-Player Alert – Desecrated Cathedral!

To play this 4-player Alert, your character must be level 30 and have a minimum Combat Rating of 113. Recent events have caused Raven's two halves to completely separate from each other; one is righteous, while the other is entirely evil. And now one has disappeared under suspicious circumstances! The other, your ally, has sensed a powerful disturbance in the levels of sinful energy coming from Gotham Wastelands, and you must help investigate the source!     • Open your On Duty Menu and look for the new Alert under Tier 7 of the 4 Player Tab.

Generator Affinity Bonus!
Overview

Affinity Bonuses are character boosts, via stat increases or additional abilities, which will become active when the character meets some set of requirements. The first Affinity Bonuses will come from wearing Episode 16 Elite gear. That gear has this tooltip to let you know it works with Affinity Generator Mods: "Wearing this and other pieces of Elite gear will activate your currently installed Affinity Generator Mods that require Elite gear."

Generator

Affinity Generator Mods are a new type of Generator mod. These mods can only be installed into the new bottom row of the Generator, labeled Affinity. The mods have four categories that correlate to how many pieces of Elite gear your character is wearing. The Generator has one socket for mods that work with two pieces (Type A), one socket for mods that work with four pieces (Type B), one socket for mods that work with six pieces (Type C), and one socket for mods that work with eight pieces (Type D). This allows a character to have four different Affinity Bonuses active at once.

The sockets on the Generator follow the normal rules of the Generator in that they require the cells to be active in order for them to function.

    • 1 Cell active = Type A bonus socket active
    • 2 Cells active = Type B bonus socket active
    • 3 Cells active = Types C & D bonus socket active

Affinity Generator Mods

The bonuses are better depending on how many pieces of gear are required to activate it. The two piece Elite gear Type A Affinity Generator Mods grant half an equipment mod's amount of a stat for the given tier. The four piece Elite gear Type B Affinity Mods grant the full amount of an equipment mod's stat for the given tier. For instance a tier VII Might equipment mod grants +130 Might. So a two piece Elite gear Type A Affinity Generator Mod v7 would grant +65 Might and a four piece v7 Elite gear Type B Affinity Generator Mod would grant +130 Might. The six and eight piece Type C & D mods will be available at a later date.

    • The mods correspond to a specific column in the Generator and will only work in that column
        o This is different from how other Generator mods work
    • The 2 piece Elite gear Type A and 4 piece Elite gear Type B mod items have a version number and use an icon that matches that like 'v7'
    • Installation also contributes 8 prestige toward weekly Base walk-in
    • The mods can be purchased from a new vendor in the Tech wings of the HQs and have a POI marker on the map. They are also available from the Amenity R&D Vendor.

Character Inventory UI

In order for you to know which Affinity Generator Mods are currently installed and/or active, the top right empty slot in the Inventory UI is labeled Affinity Bonus and used to show a tooltip. The tooltip will gray out any installed but inactive mod descriptions and will be gray plus show "None" if the Generator does not have a mod in that slot. If all the cells in your generator are depleted a message is shown at the top of the tooltip that says, "Your Generator is unpowered. Add power to the Generator in your Base to activate your Affinity Mods."

Episode 16

Desecrated Cathedral – In this four-player Alert, players will return to the cathedral in the Gotham Wastelands at the request of Raven, Trigon's daughter, who senses a disturbance in the levels of sinful energy there. Who is behind the disturbance? What is their purpose? The answers to these questions will unleash a new threat to the universe, and a new storyline in DC Universe Online.

This is also the first Alert with an Elite version, where players can attempt a more challenging version of the content for more powerful rewards.

Oa Under Siege – While contained on Zamaron, "The Black" continues to spread across the universe, and the Black Lanterns are invading Oa. Players must assist the Green Lanterns before the Corruption spreads. This is a solo mission that will take players from one end of the DC Universe to the other as the Black Lanterns further reshape the War of the Light.

This solo mission continues the War of the Light and Black Lantern storylines.

Episode 16 will be available this September as a free download for Members and for purchase by non-Members via the PlayStation®Network, the in-game Marketplace, or for PC players via the DCUniverseOnline.com website.

Well, that wasn’t a very long wait. Was it?

Let’s talk about Episode 16! We’ve got our next round of content coming your way, and I wanted to shed some light on just what you can expect. This time around we’re releasing a solo mission and an Alert, and for the first time ever, an Elite Alert! There is a new style and a new type of gear being introduced with the Elite Alert as well. All around, it’s going to be a great month in DCUO!



Oa Under Siege (Solo Mission)

The War of the Light continues, and Black Lanterns are now appearing on Oa. Ion will be corrupted, and in order to save Ion and Hal Jordan, a new member of the Indigo Tribe will emerge. Munk, Indigo-1’s second in command, will make his debut in DCUO. This mission is very fun and will take players from the Metropolis Battlezone to Oa as Black Lanterns make their way to Earth.



Desecrated Cathedral (4-player Alert and Elite Alert)

Brother Blood’s schemes for ultimate power reach a new level as he uses Raven and the Sons of Trigon to collect even more power. In this Alert, players will journey back to the Cathedral in Gotham Wastelands at the request of Raven to investigate and stop whatever Brother Blood has planned.

In the Elite version of the Alert, take on the Cathedral under even more challenging terms – limited revives, new mechanics, and more difficult enemies – for even greater reward.

New Gear!

We’ve got a new style that takes Episode 15's power armor to a new level. The detail is amazing, and really makes you feel like you’re wearing armor made of swirling energy. Beyond the style, the gear itself adds a new element in Elite Affinities. These are like set bonuses you’ve seen in games before, but of course, we had to make it even better.

Much like our innovative system that allows you to choose custom styles regardless of the gear you are wearing, the new Elite Affinity system offers you a way to customize the elite drops to your needs. This new rare gear, found in the Elite versions of content, are tied into your generator. From there, you can add new items to the generator which activate new functionality on the gear you wear. The more pieces you get, the better the gear becomes. The best part? You can decide what kind of bonuses it has and you never have to take a step backwards when you upgrade to new pieces of elite affinity gear. It’s a cool system, giving your character new and powerful benefits for you to customize, and we know you’re going to love it.

New Legends PvE Event: Hall of Doom Armory!(Official Thread)



Legends PvE: Hall of Doom Armory


The newest installment of Legends PvE is now available! Players can test their skills by creating unique teams of iconic DC Legends characters and entering the Hall of Doom’s lethal Armory! Discover what has awoken dormant weapons inside the Armory that threaten our extinction!

Players will be rewarded with Marks of Legend for defeating all the bosses and completing the instance – each boss will drop at least one Mark. Players will also be able to earn feat points by completing the achievements in the event itself. Look for Hall of Doom Armory in the Legends PVE section of the Feats menu.

To queue for the event, just look for Legends: Hall of Doom Armory under the Events tab in the On Duty menu.

Episode 15 has launched! Travel to an alternate, World War II-inspired universe in "The Bombshell Paradox," where the DC Bombshells await with a timeline threatened by infinite war. Or, take the fight back to Zamaron where the Black Lanterns have appeared, corrupting everything in their path.

Game Update 51 Patch Notes August 13th, 2015 (Original Post)

Titles!

With Game Update 51, we are introducing Titles to the game! Titles are a great way to display your accomplishments, or just your personality. You can obtain Titles by completing specific feats in game. Feats that grant titles are denoted by a yellow ribbon in the Feats Menu. To set what title to display on your character, go into your Style Menu and click on the Titles tab. You can also control whether you see titles on yourself and other players by going into the Settings Menu, and clicking on the UI tab.

Exobyte Data: Bombshell Catwoman

Entertain your party guests and your enemies with DC Bombshells' Catwoman! Members may purchase this item in game for Marks of Legend on a per character basis. The Marketplace version of this item is redeemable for every character on the account, and it is not tradable.

Animation
    • The Staff idle animation has been updated so that the staff will not interpenetrate the player’s leg.

Audio
    • Earth Powers
        o Changed the sound effect on Reinforce so that it was gender-consistent with the Crystal pet.
        o Changed the Earth power transfer sound effect so that it didn’t feel quite so loud.

    • You can no longer attempt to claim an item from the Marketplace claim window if you do not meet the character level requirements for that item.

Missions
    • Missions completed out of relevancy will now grant an Alternate Reward Box. When opened, this box will randomly grant one of the same 5 items that on duty missions drop when out of relevancy.

On Duty Menu
    • The 'suggested dominance' in queueing entries have been fixed to match the actual values (ie. in some cases, the suggested dominance was listed as 3000, when it should have been less), for various Alerts, Operations and Raids. Some other instances didn't have a suggested dominance listed at all, and now all relevant queueing entries should be standardized. No actual NPC stats were adjusted in this change.

Powers
    • Celestial
        o Power regeneration mechanics for Celestial have been updated. This now applies a regeneration effect rather than an instant power return.
        o Reduced the Power cost of Divine Light.
        o Reduced the Power cost of Plague.
    • Earth
        o Summon Crystal Golem
             Increased the damage of Crystal's Epicenter and Striking Stones ability.
    • Mental
        o Increased the damage caused by Mass Terror and Mass Levitation when at maximum Resonance.
    • Munitions
        o Power regeneration mechanics for Munitions have been updated and now apply a regeneration effect rather than instant power.
        o Munitions advanced mechanics has had a damage tuning pass. Munitions should perform better at long range and slightly better than before at melee range.
    • Quantum
        o Power regeneration mechanics for Quantum have been updated. This now applies a regeneration effect rather than an instant power return. The power regeneration effect is applied as the abilities are used rather than all at once when Time Bomb explodes.
        o Gravity Well now benefits from Quantum's Power regeneration mechanic.
    • Rage
        o Decreased the damage caused by the final attack of the Frenzy Rage Combo.
        o Power regeneration mechanics for Rage have been updated. This now applies a regeneration effect rather than an instant power return.
        o Increased the damage of the Rage Combo versions of the following attacks:
             Eviscerating Chain
             Outrage
             Dreadful Blast
             Frenzy
             Revenge
    • Sorcery
        o Fury
             Increased the damage of Fury's Arcane Barrage and Transmutation abilities.

PvP
    • Fixed an issue where pets would not attack in PVP.

Styles
    • The Focused Neophyte's Longbow will no longer clip with player hands when equipped.
    • The Alumni's Jacket for Acrobat body types had an issue around the hands where it would flicker on and off. We removed some additional geometry from the asset that did not need to be around the hand to eliminate the issue.
    • On the Marketplace Fishnet Pants a setting in the material was not allowing players to reach an absolute black, but rather a dark blue. Changed a setting in the material that now allows players to reach an absolute black value.

Summer Seasonal
    • The Atlantean Ships have sailed out of the harbor until next year.

Tutorial
    • Subtitles have been added and updated for all Mentors when exiting the Tutorial mission.

A league mate if mine recently got asked if he wanted to be a GM from (apparently) an in game GM. My league mate does not want to but said that I might be interested so he pulled me into a chat with this "GM". He quickly told me that I cannot be a GM because I was flagged for spamming chat...

Any idea if this is legit?

I will admit that I did get scammed around the time he said I was flagged AND when the person who scammed me tried to "trade" his stuff again, I'd let people know he was a scammer. That's about it.

Rehashed/Reused Content (Official Thread)

Spytle replied to a thread about rehashed/reused content and gave a perfect explanation on why they do it.

I certainly can't tell you what to like or not like, or what should make you feel bored or get you really excited. I can say that lots of your comments are incredibly misinformed or purposefully hyperbolic. For the purpose of my response, let's put those points aside.

When you watch the animated series Justice League Unlimited, they certainly seem to spend a lot of time in the Watchtower. I always find myself throwing the controller at the screen in disgust and wondering how the production staff on the show could be so lazy to reuse that environment in every episode. And the amount of times they go down to Earth, and fight in Metropolis or Gotham...I mean it is the height of laziness!

Whenever I crack open a Batman comic, I am simply astounded at the amount of times I have to suffer through Batman hanging out and making plans in the Batcave. I mean, Batman is so rich he should never have to use a secret lair more than once. He should build a new one and just forget about the previous so that I can get the eye candy I need.

I really like the new show on the CW network called The Flash. It is super fun! But seriously, how many times do we have to go to S.T.A.R. Labs? Why does this Captain Cold guy keep showing up? Show some originality CW! Can't they think of new places for the characters to meet up each episode? I think it is completely unimaginative that we would see that location more than once, okay, maybe twice, but that's where I draw the line.

All of the above is completely ludicrous. Honestly, any of you would look at someone sideways and wonder what they put in their OJ that morning if they were to seriously make these claims. The fact is that the IP deals with a pantheon of heroes and villains, all of whom operate in specific locations, primarily, and have specific turf in those locations. This is serialized content, and so is the content in DCUO. It is fitting for the brand to revisit these incredibly iconic locations and experience new stories in them.

You should expect to see new environments and characters interwoven with old ones in DCUO. In fact, you should expect to see that in any DC property, whether it be comics, television or film. What matters is if the experience is fun. Some of you have loved certain pieces of content but not others, and that is for a variety of reasons. In the case of this episode, both pieces of content are a lot of fun, and they offer new exciting challenges that will push teamwork and role coordination in order to get the rewards.

In conclusion, I think it is extremely justifiable from a creative standpoint, and, in truth, important to consider form a production standpoint as well, that we revisit spaces and tell new stories there.

That's exactly what we're going to do.

Ever since the change to the new format, the Devs are failing to make any new maps/new artwork and using old redundant maps to push content.

It's hard to take the rest seriously after this uninformed comment.

That said, we will continue to return to previous locations, as we always have, and tell new stories and introduce new kinds of gameplay there. This is in part due to resources, and was one of the key concepts of building trilogy DLCs that made grand stories like that possible, but also because these environments are amazing and we have so. many. stories to tell. It would be a shame to only visit these iconic locations once.

TO MEPPS, DEV Whomever is out there, as explained in title I CAN'T see anyone now I've logged in Numerous times to see if it was just a hiccup or something, But no It wasn't. I can't see others In open world, in instances , NOTHING......... I am on USPS3.

Bombshell Poster Packs
I bought a set of each. Poster pack I and II. The new ones don't count towards the feat, understandably.
Poster pack II, which says it will contribute to the feats, did indeed contribute to my villain character.

So clarification on poster pack II contributing towards the poster feat please.

If that's the case, Mepps, I'd like to pm you to look into another character, which had 8/11 of the posters. I put 3 other posters from that pack, already in-game, into the the shared bank, cashed them in on that character. All on display, but says I only have 10/11 of the feat.

Poster pack I will not contribute to feats. Poster pack II will. • Vendor gear cash cost is incorrect (FIXED)

Legends PvE: Hall of Doom Armory

The newest installment of Legends PvE is now available! Players can test their skills by creating unique teams of iconic DC Legends characters and entering the Hall of Doom’s lethal Armory! Discover what has awoken dormant weapons inside the Armory that threaten our extinction!

Players will be rewarded with Marks of Legend for defeating all the bosses and completing the instance – each boss will drop at least one Mark. Players will also be able to earn feat points by completing the achievements in the event itself. Look for Hall of Doom Armory in the Legends PVE section of the Feats menu.

To queue for the event, just look for Legends: Hall of Doom Armory under the Events tab in the On Duty menu!

Note: Legends PvE: Hall of Doom Armory will become available at 4PM PT (US) or 4PM CET (EU).
